Ministry of National Security Supports Youth Attendance at Clyde Best Film Screening

The Ministry of National Security, through its Violence Reduction Team, has purchased and donated 50 tickets for selected young people to attend screenings of Transforming the Beautiful Game: The Clyde Best Story.

The film is being shown in Bermuda this week, with screenings taking place from 21 to 26 April at the Earl Cameron Theatre and the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts.

The initiative forms part of the VRT’s ongoing work to expose young people to positive Bermudian role models, stories of perseverance, and examples of individuals who chose productive paths despite serious obstacles.

Clyde Best is widely recognised as one of Bermuda’s most accomplished sporting figures. His journey from Bermuda to professional football in England placed him among the pioneering black players in the English game, where he faced significant challenges while building a legacy that continues to inspire generations.

The Minister of National Security, the Hon Michael Weeks, JP, MP, said: “Clyde Best’s story is not only a football story. It is a Bermudian story about courage, discipline, focus and making choices that can change the course of a life.

“The young people attending this film will see someone from this island who faced pressure, prejudice and adversity, but still found a way to rise. That is a powerful message. It shows that circumstances do not have to define the future.

“Through the Violence Reduction Team, the Ministry is working to connect young people with opportunities, guidance and positive examples.

“Sometimes a young person needs to see someone who looks like them, comes from where they come from, and has walked through hardship, to understand what is possible.”

The Minister added: “This is why supporting attendance at this film matters. We want to give young people a chance to reflect, to be inspired, and to recognise that the choices they make today can carry them toward something meaningful.”

The Ministry thanked the organisers of Transforming the Beautiful Game: The Clyde Best Story for bringing the film to Bermuda and helping to share Mr Best’s legacy with the wider community.
