Minister Darrell Attends Bermuda vs. Curaçao World Cup Qualifier in Curaçao

On September 9, the Bermuda Gombey Warriors will continue their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers journey with a match against Curaçao, held in Willemstad, Curaçao. The Hon. Owen Darrell, JP, MP, Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, has been invited by the Government of Curaçao to attend the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match and will be in attendance.

Minister Darrell expressed his pride in supporting Bermuda’s national team on the international stage and highlighted the importance of fostering sporting and cultural ties with regional partners.

“Although the outcome of our recent match against Jamaica wasn’t what we hoped for, I remain deeply proud of our Gombey Warriors. Their determination on the pitch and the incredible support they received last Friday truly showcased the spirit of Bermuda. We stand behind them, today and always.

“This match in Curacao is not only an opportunity to showcase the talent and determination of our athletes, but also a chance to strengthen Bermuda’s sporting diplomacy and connections across the Caribbean.”

While in Willemstad, Minister Darrell will also be engaging in a series of meetings with Curaçao’s government representatives, including the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Economic Development, the Minister of Justice, and the Minister of Education, Science, Culture & Sports.

This visit follows Bermuda’s recent FIFA World Cup Qualifier match against Jamaica, held on Friday, September 5th, in Bermuda, where the Gombey Warriors fell to Jamaica with a 4-0 result.

The Government of Bermuda extends its best wishes to the Bermuda national team as they continue their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers campaign.
